Rasnov Fortress is the largest peasant fortress in southeastern Transylvania. It was built in the 13th century and helped to defend the inhabitants of Barsa Country for several centuries.

Located in the Southern Carpathians, the park comprises the massif about 25 km long between Zarnesti and Rucar, being delimited by the Bran-Rucar corridor and the Dambovicioara river to the east and southeast, by the Dambovita and Tamas rivers to the east and by the Barsa river to the north.
